Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa last night issued a decree establishing the Syrian National University of Defense Sciences, which will serve as the country's military institution for education, training, and research. The university will be based in Damascus.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the university will include the Higher Military Academy, the National Defense College, the War College, the Command and Staff College, as well as dedicated colleges for the Air Force, Navy, and Ground Forces. It will also oversee military and technical institutes responsible for training armed forces personnel.

The initiative is part of Syria's efforts to build a strong, professional military with enhanced institutional capacity and self-reliant capabilities.
